Saint Maurice Abbey, Park and Creperie

The Abbaye de Saint Maurice lies in ruins.
The parkland is in the Carnoet Forest which runs virtually to Quimperle and is managed as a conservation area.

There is a museum and exhibition area about the development of the Abbey, and the restoration work.

The Saint Maurice museum (right) is shown in centre frame across the estuary.

The path beyond the museum takes you into the forest. You can walk all the way to Quimperle if you so wish.

If you like birds you can see many different species here, including cormorants, avocet, kingfishers and all sorts of waders.

Fortunately, the secluded

St Maurice creperie isn’t in ruins!

The car park is very close by, and the gallettes and crepes are superb. So is the cidre! However, it’s certainly not the cheapest creperie in area.

We learned here that whilst food is reasonably priced, wine or cider ordered with your meal is at least as expensive as at home in the UK.

Mind you, even the cheapest wines on the list, were excellent everywhere we went.

The creperie has a canopied patio area where you can eat and enjoy your surroundings. A view such as this is unlikely to ruin your appetite, and the ambience is worth the slightly higher prices.

From St. Maurice the riverside estuary path goes to Pont St. Maurice, Posmoric Port and Le Pouldu. The path passes right by the creperie .

Be warned that there is a very steep, but well built, stairway up the bank just beyond the creperie.

Did I mention there were a lot of birds?

Occasionally something makes them take to the air on mass.
