Quimperle Southern Brittany

Quimperlé is an attractive small town with pretty medieval streets and churches.

Quimperle lies midway between Quimper and Lorient. The river runs through the town and is festooned with flowers.

There is a large market in the church square on Fridays.

Music festivals and concerts take place in July and August. The Fête de la Laïta in mid-August is a family occasion with canoe “battles” and 2CV races.

Guided tours are available from the tourist office and take about two hours.

I expect you will go to Quimperle for the hypermarkets. There is an Aldi one side of town and a Lidl, a Leclerc and, my favourite, an Intermarche the other side, and a second Intermache in the town.

It would be a shame if you only went to buy the groceries. Stop and spend some time looking around.

If you take the route through the forest (that’s over the crossroads, not via Clohars-Carnoet), you’ll come out on the river and may be able to park by the river before the bridge.

As in so many ancient towns

There’s an upper and lower town. We went uptown on market day, and taking photos was not easy.

Something left for next time.

Spirulina enriched cookies supplied to all children by the Mexican Government as part of
a new health initiative. Kala, India, has begun using noodles with spirulina as part of a
self sufficiency project. If it’s good for them, it’s good for us!
