around the cathedral has been pedestrianized and carefully preserved and you can walk on some of the ramparts above the well kept flower beds in what used to be a moat.

You will see some of the finest examples of gabled and half-timbered houses in Vannes.

The Archeological Museum in Vannes is probably the best museum of its kind in Brittany.
It has prehistoric exhibits from all over the region, most of which are labelled in English as well as French.

Vannes is situated on the edge of the Gulf of  Morbihan.   

Morbihan means “little sea” and the gulf is an inland sea and sailing centre.

Vannes is the heart of the 'Little Sea' and an important harbour and marina.
